FAQs

  • Mastering the Curve.

Geometry is easy; fluidity is hard.

Master Jeweler Ratan says the challenge of this piece is the neck. In Jadau work, the metal must be heated to embed the stone. When working on a curve, the metal expands and contracts unevenly.

Ratan must hand-cut the red stones into precise, tapered shapes to fit the winding channel of the swan's body. If the stone is too straight, it breaks the visual flow. If it's too curved, it won't seat in the metal.

It takes a sculptor's eye to get the "Ruby" teardrops to flow seamlessly into the gold. The result is a pendant that looks like it is in motion.

    "Grace under pressure."
