  • Encased in Gold.

The word Kundan means "highly refined gold." It refers to the purest form of the metal.

Master Jeweler Ratan uses this aesthetic to give these studs their regal look. In cheap jewelry, stones are often glued in. In Kundan-style work, the stone is held by the metal itself.

Ratan places the emerald-hued glass into the setting and then carefully presses the gold-plated metal over the edges of the stone. This creates a solid, seamless collar of gold that locks the "gem" in place forever.

The result is a flower where the green seems to be blooming directly out of the gold.

Held by gold. Defined by color.
