A finch at rest, about 0.6" across, built on 92.5 sterling silver under heavy 22k gold plating. Clear uncut-style glass crystals are embedded directly into the body, held flush by the metal rather than glue, so the wing reads as one jeweled surface.

The story
It is easy to make a large statement. It is much harder to make a small one.
Master Jeweler Ratan calls this piece a test of patience. The bird is barely the size of a thumbnail, yet it contains distinct segments of stone work.
To create the wing and body, Ratan uses a technique called flush stone-setting. He must heat the brass frame and insert the tiny, hand-cut crystals into the channels before the metal cools. There is no room for error. A fraction of a millimeter off, and the stone won't fit.
This isn't mass-produced casting. It is a micro-sculpture that happened to be made into a necklace.
